Madison Beer drew inspiration from a pop predecessor for her look at the 2021 MTV VMAs on Sunday night.

The 22-year-old singer wore an 18-year-old dress from Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2003 collection. This exact dress was previously worn by Beyoncé to a taping of the David Letterman show that year. The extremely rare designer piece, which recently sold for $5,995, is composed out of panels of rose pink silk and leather, with corset detailing throughout. While Beyoncé chose to style her dress laced-up to just above the knee with sparkly pink peep-toe sandals, Beer left hers unlaced to the hip with a pair of metallic heeled sandals. But both stars paired the look with loose waves and a soft pink lip.

Beer is attending the MTV VMAs this year as both a presenter and a nominee as she is up for Push Performance of the Year. She tweeted ahead of the award show on Sunday night, “barely slept last night ahhhhh today’s @vmas day !!!!!” The pop star also attended last year’s socially distanced ceremony, walking the green screen step-and-repeat in a barely-there Mugler mini dress complete with opera gloves and huge platform heels.
