Madison Beer isn’t done reinventing herself

Madison Beer is only 18 but she’s already experienced so much. After being discovered by Justin Bieber on YouTube, she shot to online fame and started dating a fellow musician who also got his start on social media.

Despite paparazzi following her all over the place, Madison’s been careful about sharing her life with the public. Even though Madison’s private for a social media star, she has 10 million Instagram followers. And she’s making her mark on the music world with her latest single, “Dead,” a deep and dark song about what it’s like when someone who claims to love you can’t stop acting like a d*ck. She has another single, “Say It to My Face,” coming out in November.

Madison’s also being embraced by the fashion world, being invited to fashion shows and having her outfits dissected in detail by the press. As Madison continues to explore her passion for music, we’re sure she won’t stop evolving.

You’ve mentioned a love of songwriting, and you penned your latest track “Dead.” What’s your songwriting ritual?

I often cowrite in studios with amazing seasoned writers which has taught me some tips. When I write alone it’s usually just chillin’ in my room

You’re one of the best outfit posters on Instagram, have you ever considered branching into fashion?

Thank you! I’m always interested in exploring different opportunities. Fashion is such a fun way to express yourself so totally down!

I heard that you used to do karate, so I’m assuming you are a good friend to have around when walking around at night? Basically were you good?

I was young, it was an after school activity…. besides, I’m a lover not a fighter!! I became really close with my sensei who taught me how to persevere and amazing life lessons. I am thankful for her!

What’s the most surprising artist that influences your sound?

I love old music. Soft rock. The Beatles, Janis, etc. — so influential to me

What’s a standout piece of advice Justin Bieber has given you since discovering you on YouTube?

His main thing was to be authentic to who you are and not give up!

Your music has been described as indie, pop, R&B and more, but how do you describe it yourself?

I think I’d agree with that description. I’m so young, I hope it always evolves.

In one of your Instagram singing videos you wrote in your caption about your dream to be on Broadway. Is that true? What kind of show would you want to do?

I could totally see me in a musical one day. I’ve been obsessed with Wicked, The Little Mermaid and Frozen. I think I can see me in a musical movie first, less commitment 🙂

People are calling your new single Dead a reinvention. Do you see it that way?

I suppose it is, I like if people are calling it that. I’m always looking for reinvention, especially now that I turned 18 and I am without a label. It’s nice to do what you love vs. being told what you should do.

I’m super proud of Dead. 🙂

Dead is already racking up the views on YouTube, can we expect more new music soon, maybe a full length album? What’s in the cards?

Working on my EP as we speak. It’s a work in progress like everything else in life. My fans have been so patient so I’m really being selective with what I release. They deserve the dopest tracks so I’m aiming to please.

Who takes your fashion Instagram shots?

Ha, basically who ever I’m with at the moment. They’re never planned. My posts are always just when I’m in the mood and inspired. Obviously the selfies are done by yours truly! Living with my mom for the past 18 years I’d have to admit she’s done her fair share of photo creds.

You’re from Long Island, but you live in LA. So, which coast is the best coast?

Ugh, nothing is like New York. It’s culture and home to me. Four seasons and family.

LA is new and fun and has become my home. Can’t beat the weather and the healthy lifestyle. It’s a real toss-up.

If I could have my way I’d be bicoastal.
