RIP Talia

I’m so heartbroken and upset over the passing of Talia Castellano. I can’t believe it. Her battle is over and she is in a better place now. Thank you for making the world a better place with your beautiful smile and positive personality.

For those who didn’t know Talia, she was a 13-year-old gorgeous, happy, positive fighter who battled with Neuroblastoma for over 5 years. She was also diagnosed with Leukemia. After losing her hair because of chemo, she decided to become a make-up guru on YouTube to boost her self-confidence. Her motto was “makeup is my wig.” Everyone loved her.

Talia always had a dream of meeting Ellen DeGeneres and doing her makeup. In 2012, Ellen not only did that, but she also named her an “honorary Cover Girl.” I’ll always remember when she told Ellen, “well, a little fishy told me to just keep swimming!” She was so hilarious and adorable.

Talia’s mom and sister want to continue to fulfill her wishes and legacy by creating her own make-up and clothing line. For updates and future events, stay tuned to: https://www.facebook.com/angelsfortalia.

Heaven lost a fighter, but heaven gained an angel.

RIP Talia, I love you and I’ll never forget you. <3

Happy birthday Jacob!

So my mom’s mom (who we call Nana J), recently told me about a boy in her town named Jacob Mockbee. Jacob is an amazing and inspiring boy who will turn 16 years old on June 16th (HIS GOLDEN BIRTHDAY)!!! Mine was when I was five (March 5th) hehe.

Jacob was born with Spina Bifida, a rare condition that has required him to undergo more than 50 surgeries and breathe through a vent. Despite all the struggles at such a young age, Jacob continues to be upbeat and optimistic. He has inspired me to be happy and enjoy every moment no matter what the circumstances.

To help brighten his day, I made a card for his upcoming birthday. Please join me and send happy birthday wishes to Jacob, too! You can send cards to the below address. I really wanna try and get 1,600… or even better 16,000 cards to Jacob for his birthday. PLEASE HELP ME DO IT!!!??

Happy Birthday Jacob. I hope every wish comes true:)

Dove Real Beauty Sketches

Have you guys seen the new Dove commercial where women are asked to describe themselves for a police sketch artist?

This is how it is played out: the sketch artist brings in a series of women and asks them about their appearance. “Tell me about your chin” and “tell me about your jaw.”  Surprisingly, these beautiful women respond with answers that focus on what they didn’t like about their appearance. “My chin sticks out… I have a really big forehead.”  The artist then draws how they described themselves.

After the women leave, he brings in strangers who had just met these women and are asked to describe the same group of women he just sketched.  The descriptions by the strangers are MUCH more positive. They described the women’s faces as having “friendly eyes” and “overall nice features.”

“Are you more beautiful than you think?” I feel like this video is important for girls of all ages to watch.  The campaign shows the insecurities and self-image problems that all of us deal with on a daily basis.  Real beauty exists in all of us.  We need to inspire each other and try our best to smile and accept ourselves for who we are:)

Boston

I am still at a loss of words over the bombings that occurred earlier this week at the Boston Marathon. It was heartbreaking and frightening to watch the news on Monday, but despite all the bad, there was also a silver lining. There were an amazing number of heroic stories that have been told that showcase the very best in people. Below are a few of my faves.

1. Policeman/Firefighters/First Aid/Event Volunteers – OMG, I was brought to tears. These super fearless people ran towards the explosion to help out anyway they could. They risked their lives out of love for people and for that I love them.

2. Random people who offered up their homes – This act of kindness was unbelievably generous. Regular Bostonites/Bostonians? opened up their homes to those in need. They created Google docs that shared their housing information with ANYONE that needed help. That, my friends, is inspiring.

3. Runners RUNNING to donate blood – There were also marathon runners that crossed the finish line and continued to run to the hospital to give blood to victims! I can’t even begin to imagine how tired they were but they continued to run for others. I am just in awe.

I can’t even begin to show my gratitude for all of these amazing and inspiring people. It’s great to know that despite all the loss and sadness, people are good. I’ll leave you with a quote from your friend and mine, Mr. Rogers. Stay strong everyone.

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” – Mr. Rogers

Drop 4 Drop

Last week I tweeted about an awesome charity called drop4drop on World Water Day. Now that I have more space, I wanted to tell ya a little bit more about it.

Basically, drop4drop’s goal is to end the water crisis that’s happening around the world. It’s so crazy and sad that 1.2 billion people (!!!) do not have access to any clean water. This is not okay…

I don’t want to get it wrong, so I’ll let them tell you about it.

“drop4drop’s mission is to help alleviate the global water crisis, by giving individuals and businesses the opportunity to offset their water consumption, delivering efficient and accountable clean water projects across the developing world.”

Pretty cool, huh? If you want to get involved, you can volunteer by arranging events or you can help us promote the cause on Facebook, Twitter, Instragram… or my personal fave – KEEK! Check out their Twitter account and website and help out this super cool charity.
